Tottie's Eatery has been in existance since December 2005 and we are well known for our home style cooking. We are situated on the Rheenendal Road which forms part of the Old Seven Passes Route from Knysna to George, and we are en route to the Millwood Goldfields.

Our menu is quite extensive, ranging from breakfasts, light lunches, to home baked muffins and scones . We offer homemade burgers (the best in the Garden Route), salads, and delicious sandwiches.

We have a jungle gym area and kiddies menu. Our venue has ample inside seating for the cooler days, and lovely relaxing areas in the garden, with a koi pond and water feature.

We are unlicenced, so please BYO.

Our venue is available for after-hour functions, be it for a corporate or family party. We cater for weddings, birthdays and functions.

We have ample parking and we are also wheel chair friendly.

How Tottie's got it's name?  - HISTORY

Florence Eleanor van Reenen (nee Cross), born in 1878, originally came from Christchurch, New Zealand as a Florence Nightingale nurse in 1898 during the Anglo Boer War and was stationed at the Simonstown British Military Hospital.

Florence was a daughter of Edmund Willoughby Cross, a Scottish Mining Engineer who was involved in Gold mining activities in both Australia and New Zealand, who himself was a descendent of the 10th Duke of Hamilton and Charles Delacroix, Foreign Minister of France. (Presumably Cross is the Scottish version of Delacroix).

Florence met Pieter Joseph van Reenen in Cape Town where they married in 1904. Their first son, Pieter Joseph Jnr was born in 1906 and their second son, Vintcent in 1910 and a daughter, Reneira in 1916.

In 1910 Pieter van Reenen bought a farm in the District of Knysna together with his cousin Pieter Dormehl and in 1912, he and his family took up residence at the farm known as Redlands in the original hunting lodge, built in 1864 by Henry Barrington, the previous owner of the property. In 1920 Pieter van Reenen also purchased the property which he called Rheenendal and established a sawmill. In 1922, Tottie opened the trading store at Rheenendal to service the needs of the sawmill staff and the woodcutters of the surrounding forests at Millwood.

Florence van Reenen called her granddaughters tiny tot's and they in turn nicknamed her Tottie which name has stuck ever since for generations to come.

Tottie died in 1976 at the age of 98 and her legacy continues to this day in the form of a General Dealer Store, Petrol Station, Postal Agency, Family Restaurant and Takeaway.
